A flier for the Party for the Preserves event hosted by the Forest Preserves of Cook County.

Celebrate National Public Lands Day at our annual Party for the Preserves. Arrive in the morning and make a toy boat with natural materials and join a ‘regatta’ down the river. Stay until the afternoon to make a “seed bomb” to launch wildflowers into your own yard.

Starting at 11:30, Dr. William C. Beckerson will be presenting on zombie insects and teaching everyone how to use the iNaturalist App to identify different species of insects. After his talk, the BioBlitz will begin!

A BioBlitz is an event where volunteers and scientists work together to find and identify as many species of living organisms as possible within a specific geographic area over a short period. In this BioBlitz, we will be trying to identify every insect at the River Trail Nature Center in Northbrook, IL!

This event is in collaboration with the iNat Together initiative, a global campaign by iNaturalist that encourages people to step outside and explore local nature together rather than observing alone. This event is taking place from September 18th through September 28th.
